Dear Tim,
I'm ******* *****, aged 18 from England. I hope that you don't mind my letter. I thought that you might be
curious about what I thought about you and about the act of which you were convicted.
Basically, I approve of your values. The government did, and still does, need to be taught a lesson, and violence
is the only thing that really makes a government pay attention. The people have failed to retain the power necessary to keep their central government respectful, and that government — never mind the
media illusions that we both know about — has lost its respect for the rights of the governed. Hence, Ruby Ridge and Waco. Someone like you had to do something like what you did. Sooner or later, more
"Tim McVeighs" will have to make their appearance, one after the other, with a continuing trend toward larger acts of violence, until the government is once again under proper restraint.
Having said that, Tim, you're a better infantryman than a general. Having taken it upon yourself to fight the
government, you let your unwillingness to shoot another serviceman get you captured. Strategically, you failed to consider the way in which the government could use civilian casualties to garner a major
propaganda victory. You will have figured this thing out long ago, of course.
The media are an integral part of the tyranny, and they control the public's perceptions for the most part. If
you'd attacked one of Saddam Hussein's federal buildings, and killed some civilians in the process, the US government would call it "collateral damage" and the US media would accuse Iraq of
violating the rules of war by using civilians as a shield for military targets. But when you did the same thing in America, the media presented things a bit differently. It would've been better if you
had targeted an office building for a major television network in New York than a federal building in Oklahoma City. The media are part of the tyranny — their infrastructure isa
legitimate military target.
Predictably, the media have brainwashed most of the public into regarding you as a coward and a terrorist. Most
of the public is gullible — or, to be more precise, they been trained to receive ideas from the media uncritically. But the thinking people regard you with a bit more understanding. If I could have
advised you before your attack, I'd have told you about the propaganda angle. At the same time, I realise that a person gone over into "fight to the death" mode can't afford to trust people
with his plans. He, personally, has to know what to do and when to do it, as well as how to bring it about. I admire your spirit, your purpose, and your practical military skills, though I would strongly
criticise your strategy. Even though changes in opinion may not come about before your death, I believe that people may begin to understand your motives, hopefully before the next person tries to expose
the government again. There WILL be more Tim McVeighs unless the government stop using violence as an answer to all problems and policing methods. The US government will hopefully realise their
hypocritical actions and STOP contradicting themselves with their so-called values. Maybe the victim's relatives will realise for who and why their relatives died. Their corrupt, hypocritical and
contradictory central government
If you win through death, you'll be remembered as a tragic figure, who tried to expose a government but was not
supported, by any so called right wing causes. The play will be about a soldier who meant well, a hero in his heart who acted with poor judgement. You needed a commander and support, Tim, and they were
not there.
Yours Faithfully
